Decentralized autonomous company ConsitutionDAO raised about $40 million to buy the first-edition copy of the US Constitution. This is two times more than the Sotheby’s auction house had estimated. The document is one of the 13 first-edition copies. It will be auctioned on Thursday by the major auction house. The document has been valued between $15 million and $20 million.
The DAO was formed last Thursday, and began collecting money via fundraising platform JuiceBox. In the first 12 hours, it already raised $3 million. Also, some whales started donating, with one of them donating 4 million USD.
Metaversal, an investment company targeted on NFTs, contributed $1 million, and declared its backing via the app Clubhouse on Tuesday.
Core ConstitutionDAO contributor Julian Weisser said: “With ConstitutionDAO, we want people to experience the Constitution beyond the museum context where it is just an artifact of the past,”. He also said: “We are thrilled [Metaversal] is involved in this historic project that allows people to participate with the richness of this document and the reason it was determined.”
